Latest Developments Signal Potential for Partial Shutdown, But SBA Programs NOT Impacted

Friday, March 8, 2024
UPDATE:

The Senate narrowly averted a partial shutdown by passing the first six FY24 funding bills after threats earlier in the day signaled potentially concerning delays, and was signed by the President ahead of the midnight deadline.

FY24 SBA funding and authorization remain in the second group of funding bills that expire March 22 under a fourth continuing resolution.

The Senate is scheduled to vote today on the first six FY24 funding bills—which does not include SBA funding or authorization—after the House successfully passed this first set of funding bills earlier this week.  However, the very latest hour-by-hour reports are suggesting that there couldpotentially be delays in the Senate passage of this important FY24 funding hurdle.  If the Senate does not come to an agreement before midnight, a partial government shutdown would occur for the agencies funded by the four bills set to expire today. As the bills currently stand, the President is expected to sign the funding package to keep the portion of the government open that would be affected.

Please know that SBA and its programs are not in any way impacted by these latest developments, nor would they be impacted by any partial shutdown that may or may not occur.  SBA funding and program authorizations remain in the second set of funding bills that are slated to expire on March 22 under the ongoing, fourth Continuing Resolution (CR) that extended FY23 levels while full-year FY24 negotiations continue.

NAGGL will be monitoring these issues, as always.
