SBA has given advance notice that, on February 28, 2026, it will sunset its use of the Small Business Scoring Service (SBSS) for 7(a) Small Loans.  Sometime later this month, the Agency will publish a formal notice that will provide guidance regarding the replacement 7(a) Small Loan underwriting requirements.  According to the SBA message, this change will allow lenders to “use their existing scoring models and [will] streamline the delivery of small-dollar lending”.

SBA has indicated that it will provide training on the new requirements during the 7(a) Connect Quarterly Update on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at 3 PM ET.  Click to join that event.
