April Spotlight, Steve Mattern
"Who would have thought that a few people sitting around a small table
in San Diego...were responsible for picking a group of determined bankers
with a mission to keep and protect the program and to improve relations
with the Agency," said Steve Mattern, Senior Vice President with U.S. Bank
in Auburn, CA.
Long-time NAGGL member Steve "Mad Dog" Mattern has been there almost
since the very beginning and has seen the ever-changing face of the industry.
NAGGL has been the pulse of the industry since inception, Mattern said-without
a doubt, NAGGL has been the driving force behind the program's success.
Mattern believes that one of the hardest fought battles in recent memory
has been won recently, and applauds the association's efforts in the passing
of HR 4506. Looking forward he believes that "we need to make sure that
we are successful in getting 2005 squared away in the next six months. Then
maybe it will be a cakewalk after that. It seems that everything good about
the program is worth taking a stand. Thinking of 20 more years of this brings
a smile to my face."
