NAGGL was formed in 1984 in response to a host of issues,
including a White House attempt to dismantle and disband the U.S.
Small Business Administration (SBA) and its loan programs. But a group
of visionaries understood then as we do now—that SBA loan programs
are the government’s best deal to spur economic growth, creating
more jobs for the dollar than any other stimulus option available.
The visionary founders of the fledgling National Association of
Government Guaranteed Lenders—won the battle to save the SBA . For
more than 20 years, NAGGL has pushed for program improvements
that have helped the 7(a) program grow from $1 billion in 1984 to over
$12 billion the last two fiscal years. In the coming decades, NAGGL will
continue collaborating with its members to solve problems and overcome
challenges, embracing the opportunity to enhance the success of 7(a)
program participants nationwide.

A number of 7(a) participants who helped start NAGGL are still active 20
years later. Each month during 2004, our 20th anniversary, we
shared the story of a different founding member. More
