For 20 years, members have asked, "Why is NAGGL located in Stillwater, Oklahoma?!" NAGGL’s first president, Biff Barnard, explains, "I convinced Tony Wilkinson, a young banker from Stillwater to take over as volunteer-president. NAGGL’s subsequent growth led to Tony becoming  full-time president, with Vickie Wilkinson serving as Executive Director in the early years.”

NAGGL’s spring 1992 newsletter noted that the Association’s central US location offered maximum phone coverage across national time zones, and that "…with the large increase in membership, services, and planned programs, the management needs of the association quickly outgrew its previous location (the Wilkinson home). Stillwater provides an economical headquarters with the average per square foot cost running $2.25 versus $25.00 in D.C.”
